Cortisone Injection

Last Friday, I tripped over one of Maddy's shoes and slighty rolled my ankle again. It wasn't as bad and did not hear/feel the "pop" like the first time but it definitely hurt enough that I was doubled over on the floor holding my foot which made the girls cry because it scared them. I went to physical therapy that afternoon and was told it wasn't broken again. So because it was feeling ok as I was doing these exercises, I did a little more at therapy than normal. Since that day, however, it has hurt a bit more and having worked a couple times, I have been on my feet more. Today, I had a 3 week follow up appointment with the Orthopedic. She suggested a cortisone injection to reduce the inflammation (it's the strongest anti-inflammatory because it goes directly to the inflamed area; instead of ibuprofen, which goes through your body to get there). Let me just copy and paste this info first before I share my reaction to the shot:

"...Some cortisone injections can be painful. Injections into an area that is already inflamed are more sensitive. Some areas, such as the hand and foot are particularly sensitive and a freeze block is used before injection..." from The Truth About Cortisone Shots @ http://www.spineuniverse.com/displayarticle.php/article1349.html

First of all, I think she gave me frost bite with that freeze block stuff and then when the injection came... OH MY GOODNESS! I actually yelled - loudly - and kept yelling until it was done. It probably only last about 5 seconds but it seemed so much longer in my no-tolerance-to-pain wussy mind. Ok, she says "it doesn't hurt." HAVE YOU EVER HAD ONE MISS ORTHOPEDIC PHYSICIAN'S ASSISTANT?????? I can understand if she said "it might feel like a pinch" or "it might hurt for a second." But no... IT FLIPPIN' KILLED!
