Why Do They Call Them Wisdom Teeth?

So I have this wisdom tooth that has been growing in for, I don't know... a couple years maybe... it would hurt on and off but the pain always went away. (FYI, it's my only wisdom tooth-phew) I know I have very little tolerance for pain, but man oh man, this time the pain is so darn severe that even a pain pill hardly does anything. I buprofen helps for about an hour or so but unless I want to burn a hole in my stomach, I can't take more for another few hours. I've taken the pain pill with the ibuprofen and it has only made it bearable, there's still pain.
So I went to the dentist the other day. He told me it was partially impacted and needed to be removed by an oral surgeon, and that I would be sedated. Oh yeah, and I have an infection in the gum area around that tooth. So I'm on an antibiotic to get rid of the infection and the inflammation. It's been almost 3 days since that appointment and I was hoping that the antibiotic would have done something already, but it doesn't seem to have done anything. Oh well, I'll just have to wait and see. I still have to make my appointment with the oral surgeon, but I'm waiting on a referral from my dentist - that's another sore subject with me!

Uh. I had 4 removed that were impacted my senior year while living with the Tangs. I'll never forget the pain, not just in the mouth but the jaw, ears, cheeks, head. Terrible.

I also learned I can't take percusset(sp) b/c while on it then I was seeing things and sweating profusely... Uck. I feel for you!

I had mine out and couldn't eat or sleep for a month. Oh, the pain was horrific. You just can imagine how miserable you are going to be for 3 months after you get it out..... oh wait a second, that was someone else. I had 4 impacted teeth out and want back to work the next day with only minor swelling:) everyone else was telling you how terrible it was going to be so I just wanted to get in on it:) have fun

Good point, Josh.

I, er, meant to say, that, er... it was totally painless and not a problem at all. Yeah, that's it.

Sorry to be a downer, Di. It just really was a bad experience for me.
