What Is That Smell???

Lately, when Peter had been mowing the lawn in the backyard, he noticed a stench coming from a certain area of the yard. Everytime he made a pass he would think that maybe it was coming from the area outside of our yard over the fence. Well, he did some investigating and it turns out there was something rotting (*gag*) under the ground in our yard. There's a drain pipe that comes from the gutter on the house that drains under the yard and then there's a hole towards the back of the yard that drains into a box of some sort that also has a pipe leading out of it (something like that). So I guess an opossum crawled in and couldn't get out. I have to say that as I was standing on the deck watching Peter dig this out I was laughing so hard. It was a funny sight watching him dry-heave. And I could smell the stench all the way from the deck.

How do you cook an Opossum?

Hope you put some wire over the pipe so it won't happen again.

What a hysterical post. I told some friends your story this weekend and a friend had his own similiar story. He had some barrels over near his canoe and smelled a horrible smell and when he looked in each of the barrels he noticed they were of course full of water... and also each had a few chipmunks and squirrels in them, too! Apparently they jumped in or fell in ("come on in, the water's fine!") and couldn't get out b/c of the high plastic sides of the barrel and died eventually. Stinky!!!
